Live Nation Continues Investing in the Next Generation of Music Venues

Universal Music Group partnered with AI-powered remix platform Hook, allowing users to create licensed fan-generated content using official UMG recordings.

Hook provides tools for remixing and editing music for social platforms while keeping the activity inside a licensed system designed to compensate artists and rights holders.

Why It Matters

Fan-created edits, mashups and remixes already generate enormous engagement across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and other platforms.

Historically, however, those creations have operated in an uncomfortable copyright gray area.

UMG's Hook partnership represents an attempt to turn that activity into an officially licensed business model.

Industry Impact

Labels could begin treating fan creativity as another monetizable part of an artist's catalog.

Instead of constantly removing unauthorized edits, rights holders could provide approved tools that allow fans to remix songs while automatically tracking ownership and royalties.

That could eventually create an entirely new revenue layer between streaming, social media and music licensing.
